The "Guangnan Connection Line", which links Guangzhou Railway Station, Guangzhou Baiyun Railway Station and Guangzhou South Railway Station, is expected to be completed and begin operations by mid-2027. Upon completion, one-hour rail access will be available from downtown Guangzhou to both Hong Kong West Kowloon and Zhuhai.
The "Guangnan Connection Line" is located in the adjoining areas of Guangzhou and Foshan. Starting from Guangzhou Railway Station and passing through Liwan District of Guangzhou, Nanhai District of Foshan and Panyu District of Guangzhou, the newly built line will extend southward in tunnel form along planned urban express routes before connecting to Guangzhou South Railway Station.
After the line opens to traffic, not only will major railway hub stations across Guangzhou achieve interconnectivity, with passenger trains departing from Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Zhuhai and Macao gaining direct access to downtown Guangzhou, but transportation links between Guangzhou and Hong Kong will also be further accelerated, enabling one-hour rail access from downtown Guangzhou to both Hong Kong West Kowloon and Zhuhai.
The travel time between Guangzhou South Railway Station and Guangzhou Railway Station will be shortened to 15 minutes after the line begins operations. Trains departing from Shenzhen, Zhuhai and Macao will directly reach downtown Guangzhou, while travel time between downtown Guangzhou and Hong Kong West Kowloon will be reduced to about one hour.
